Motor third party liability insurance
Mandatory for all motor vehicle operators.
Motor third party liability insurance (MTPL insurance) is compulsory for all vehicles registered in Hungary.
Under MTPL insurance, the insurance company will pay for any damage we cause to others. The cost of an accident can run into several million HUF, and without MTPL insurance, it is the at-fault operator who has to pay.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MTPL AND CASCO INSURANCE
MTPL INSURANCE
MTPL insurance is a statutory indemnity policy. It covers the damage you cause to others. Motor vehicles registered in EU countries must be covered by third-party liability insurance, which covers damage caused to others. This compulsory insurance is valid in all Member States of the European Union. In this case, the insurance company pays compensation for material damage or personal injury caused by the insured to others. However, the insurance does not cover the driver of the vehicle at-fault or any other costs (e.g. the cost of repairing your own vehicle).
CASCO INSURANCE
Unlike MTPL insurance, Casco insurance covers conditional damage to your vehicle. There is no statutory obligation to take out Casco insurance, it is optional. It can cover, for example, damage to, or theft of, the policyholder's own car, loss caused by the theft of items in the car or provide access to other additional services.
